When inviting relatives or friends to visit Canada, writing a clear and detailed invitation letter is an essential step in the visa application process. This letter helps Canadian immigration officials understand the purpose of the visit and confirms that the person traveling has a legitimate reason to come to Canada.

Start by including your own information—full name, date of birth, and address in Canada. Make sure to mention that you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, as only individuals with this status can extend an invitation for a visitor. You should also provide your contact information, including your phone number and email address.

Next, include details about the person you’re inviting. Their full name, date of birth, and home address are important, along with their passport number. You should explain your relationship with them—whether they are a family member or a friend—and the reason for their visit. Common reasons might include attending a family event, sightseeing, or simply visiting loved ones. Be specific about the dates of their visit, or at least provide an estimated duration.

It’s also a good idea to describe the accommodation arrangements. Will they be staying with you, or are they staying somewhere else? If you’ll be supporting them financially during their visit, mention that too, and you may want to include documents like recent bank statements to demonstrate your ability to cover their expenses.

Lastly, you need to address the visitor’s intention to return home. Canadian immigration officials want to be sure that visitors won’t overstay their visa. Highlight any commitments the visitor has back home, such as a job, family, or property, and explain that they intend to return at the end of their stay.

You may also need to include a few supporting documents with the letter, such as a copy of your Canadian passport or permanent resident card and possibly your recent bank statements if you're providing financial support.
